)8< ...I....HATE...the Ultimate Spider-man cartoon. To think The Spectacular Spider-man was cancelled to make way for...THAT?! *shudders*
...I DO however like the new Ultimate Spider-man character! I'm especially loving the Spider-men storyline! Seeing Peter interact with Miles and soon uniting with the ultimate versions of Aunt May and Gwen Stacey! AAH!! CAN'T WAIT!!! Great job!
It was, BUT the reason they cancelled Spectacular was because they wanted to shift focus the Ultimate cartoon.
I honestly prefer Unlimited. lol It may have a terrible storyline but at least it doesn't have Spider-man breaking the 4th wall every 10 seconds and going into goofy shorts Family Guy style. I get it's geared toward kids but it doesn't leave itself open for older audiences like Spectacular did!
if thats the case, it was probably a rise in Ultiumate Spiderman's popularity (comics not the toon)
And I would vastly prefer Ultimate Spiderman over unlimited. At least ultimate isnt chock full of animation errors, uninteresting characters, awful interpretations of characters (worst. green goblin. ever), and an abomination of what should have been a continuation of 90s spiderman. at least ultimate gives nods to other marvel superheroes like Nova, Dr. Strange, and Iron Fist.
I kinda like ultimate spiderman, if only for the fact it gives attention to other marvel characters besides soley spidey villains. I do agree that the cutaways can get tiresome, but I like to look past it. plus the connection peter had with venom and a certain friend seemed like it had a lot more oomph to it, a lot more personal in his part.

I like the idea of replacing superheroes, but only if its done regularly. Peter Parker was a college student for decades, and this makes no sense. But it still makes no sense to randomly replace him now. If superheroes are to be replaced, then that idea has to begin with the superhero. Like the phantom for example. He dies regularly, and has to be constantly replaced with a successor. Then it works. But otherwise, people need to focus on writing better stories before replacing long-standing characters
The Ultimate universe is a separate continuity from the regular Marvel Universe, and I believe does not follow the "sliding time scale" that allows a character introduced as a teenager in the '60s to be still in his 20s.
